About Dr. Fillinger
Dr. Eric Fillinger was raised in Southern Ohio and attended Cedarville University for his undergraduate degree. While there, he excelled in Cross-country and Track and earned All-American honors in both sports all four years. In his senior year, he sustained an injury to his foot which introduced him to the specialty of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.
Upon completion of his undergraduate studies he attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (now Kent State University college of Podiatric Medicine) in Cleveland, OH. While there, he was exposed to faculty from University Hospitals of Cleveland, Cleveland Clinic, Sinai Medical Center, and The Ohio State University.
Upon completing his graduate degree, he was accepted into a three year podiatric medicine and surgery residency at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. This is a premier foot and ankle residency affiliated with the Michigan State University and Wayne State University. This training exposed him to advanced surgical treatments for reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle and ultimately led to his board certification by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
His areas of clinical interest and expertise include sports medicine, reconstructive foot surgery, advanced techniques in repair of the traumatized foot (including vascular and neurologic repair), and revisional surgery of the foot. And although these are areas of interests for Dr. Fillinger, he also performs minor surgical procedures in his office.
Dr. Fillinger came to Cullman in 1998 upon completion of his residency and joined an orthopedic group. In 2009, he left that group to start his solo practice. His hobbies include running, hiking, and outdoor activities. He is married to Julie. He has a son, Drew, who attended Cullman High School and a son, Nicholas, who passed away in 2013. The family started a foundation in honor of Nicholas that serves to educate high school athletes about proper training techniques, provides scholarship opportunities, and ministers internationally to young boys rescued from human trafficking.
