In the summer months, fashion and occasion dictate that a sandal be worn. However, for the most part these are very unsupportive shoes that leave the foot vulnerable to injury and unprotected from puncture wounds. However, there are some minimalist shoe designs available that are acceptable. Dr. Fillinger recomends:
NAOT sandals (with the removable foot bed)
Spenco "Total Support Sandals"
These "shoes" should be worn for only short periods of time and NOT during periods of strenuous or abundant activity.
Dr. Fillinger is frequently asked, "What's the best shoe?" The answer is, there isn't A best. The shoe should be chosen based on your foot type and your foot function. Dr. Fillinger recommends a running shoe over other types because of the added technology and superior fit and biomechanical control. Below are a list of recommended shoes based on the three types of running shoes that are made. To choose the best shoe for you, you must first know your foot type/need and then select the shoe in the appropriate category that is most comfortable for you.
